Laundry Much???

I don’t always do laundry but when I do…. oh who am I kidding? I do laundry ALL THE TIME! Family of three, nine year old kid, there is always laundry!

But did you know that how you wash your clothes, what’s in your laundry detergent, influences your health? Your detergent might smell amazing, but it might be the reason why your skin is irritated. Fragrances, preservatives, dyes, and other chemicals in laundry detergent can cause rashes in both children and adults. Laundry detergents contain lots of potentially irritating ingredients. And because your entire body comes in contact with your laundry, you can have reaction all over. Hmmm. Not me. Why?

Few years back I decided to be more careful what I use for our family. As a mother and wife, it is my responsibility to choose the right products we use at home. And I take it seriously.

So I decided to join Young Living Company and go as much toxic chemicals free as possible. No fabric softener and “clean” Laundry soap was part of the whole Ditch&Switch process.

Watch video how I made my Laundry Soap and Stain Remover Spray and recipes are below

Today I would like to share my recipe for Stain Spray and Liquid Laundry Detergent. Not only both of them are non toxic, they are also very effective, can be done in a minute and very cost effective. Instead of Fabric softener, I add white vinegar to my load and use Wool Dryer Balls with Essential oils for beautiful smell.

Stain Spray

100 ml of peroxide

50 ml of Thieves Dish Soap

1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner.

Mix together in sprayer bottle and use as needed. When spraying the stain, let it work for about 2-3 min before you wash.

Cost breakdown

Peroxide 99¥, Thieves Dish Soap 292 and 52¥ for Thieves Household Cleaner. So your amazingly smelling, non toxic stain spray costs you 443¥ !!! That’s nothing comparing to about 1300¥ for store bought stain removers that are full of dangerous ingredients.

(500 ml of peroxide costs 494¥, Thieves Dish soap costs 2133¥ for 365 ml and Thieves Household Cleaner costs 3402¥ for 426 ml)

Laundry Detergent

Want beautifully smelling laundry without the harmful chemicals?

We all want that beautifully smelling laundry. I mean we just want that soft, fluffy towels that smell like a morning dew or ocean breeze…

But did you know your store bought fabric softener is a full of toxins that easily enter your body through your skin? And that causes skin irritations and other skin problems. And that is just the beginning.

Most fabric softeners contain Chloroform! If inhaled, it is very dangerous and may cause many health issues including loss of consciousness, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and might affect your heart, kidneys and liver.

Other harmful ingredients include Benzyl Alcohol, A-Terpineol, Ethanol, Benzyl Acetate, Pentane, Ethyl Acetate, Camphor, Linaloon or Phtalates. All these are very harmful substances that have serious impacts on our health and health of our families. Anytime you smell that Laundry smell, you are inhaling toxic chemicals.  Plus fabric softeners make fabrics less absorbent and that is not good for you anyways.

Is this what you want for your family? Or for yourself?

I doubt that. I believe most of you is like me. Conscious of what we use in our homes, on our bodies and on our clothes. Making your own fabric softener is super easy and does not take any time. You can pre make it in big  batch or make as you go. Or wash in this case.

I use Young Living’s Purification Essential oil for my laundry because it smells divine and does as the name suggests. Purifies all the smells. As you wash you laundry with it, your washing machine is also getting that beautiful smell. You gonna love it. I use 5 drops of Purification per load which comes to approx 50 cents (¥60 for those in Japan like me)

So what you need?

2 spoons of Epsom Salt

1 spoon of Baking Soda

5 drops of Essential oil of your choice
First mix it together in a cup then add 50 ml of warm water so the salt and baking soda will dissolve. Pour into your washing machine where you would normally put fabric softener. If you’re using dryer balls, simply drop few drops of Purification on your dryer balls.

Please remember, not all oils are created equally. I only use Young Living Essential oils because they are pure, organic and have Seed to Seal Guarantee. If you already taking the step toward chemical free home, make sure you do not use cheap oil that has been tainted or sprayed with pesticides. That would be like brushing your teeth and eating chocolate at the same time.
