Biwa Time of the Year – Delicious Vegan Recipes

Oh yes, it’s that time of the year again. Our Biwa tree has delicious fruit and I’m loving it.

To be honest, I never even heard of Biwa until we moved to Japan. And I never really tried until we moved to new house and there was a Biwa tree right there in our new garden.

I didn’t really know what to do with the fruits so I started to experiment with it and found out that if I pick it before it’s too ripe, it had nice sourish taste, which I love in my salads.

And so my Biwa recipes came to life

Mixed Green Salad with Biwa

Ingredients

1/4 of iceberg lettuce

6 cherry tomatoes, quartered

1/8 of red onion, sliced

1/2 cucumber, sliced

1/4 of bell pepper, cut

2 biwa, squeezed over a bowl so juice and flash separates

Bunch of cilantro

Dressing

The juice from the Biwa fruit

1 tsp of olive oil

1 tsp of white balsamic vinegar

1 drop of Jade Lemon Essential oil

Punch of Himalaya pink salt

Method

Mix all the ingredient for the dressing and let sit together so the flavors combine.

Meantime, prepare all you vegetables and fruit together in a bowl. Pour the dressing over it, taste it and then use some salt.

Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and enjoy your healthy and delicious meal!

Quinoa Biwa Herb Salad

Ingredients

1 cup cooked quinoa

Bunch of Baby leaf salad mix

Bunch of coriander

3 leafs of fresh sage

1 cucumber

2 radishes

Little bit of fresh curry leaf

Salt

Olive oil

Lemon Essential oil

Three slices of bell pepper

Method

Wash your quinoa really well to avoid it turning bitter. Boil with cup of water, salt and the curry leaf. It will give it nice smell and flavor. Let it cool down

In the meantime, chop the baby leaf and herbs and cut your cucumber and radishes into slices. Squeeze the Biwa in your fingers so it opens and remove the pits, squeezing the juice and flesh into the salad bowl. Toss it together with the rest of the ingredients. Mix spoon of olive oil with two drops of Lemon EO and pinch of salt and toss it together with the salad. Serve with some bell peppers

Just in time for Christmas

I’m Czech and we spend basically entire December baking Christmas cookies and chasing our family away from the boxes full of those cookies… then Christmas comes and we are chasing everybody with plates full of cookies, making them eat it😂😂😂. I know, crazy. But we love it.

One of my favorite cookies are Gingerbread cookies. My auntie is the best when it comes to those. Hers are delicious and also absolutely gorgeous because she sure knows how to decorate them I don’t decorate mine cause I am not that good. To be honest, mine look like a 3 year old got hold of the frosting. I kid you not. But they are delicious and people always ask for more and ask for recipe.

I have tweaked the recipe using my beloved Young Living Essential oils. No need storing the spices anymore. So simple. I use Thieves EO and Ginger EO from the Vitality line (it’s marked for internal use). These oils are absolutely fantastic for our bodies and they taste great too

So here is my Thieves Gingerbread Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

250 g of All Purpose Flour

125 g of brown sugar

65 g of honey

1 large egg or 2 small ones

1/2 teaspoon of baking Soda

4 drops of Thieves Vitality Essential Oil

2 drops of Ginger Vitality Essential oil

1 extra egg, whisked, for eggwash

Method

Mix everything together very well and let the dough rest for about 12 h ( can be in the fridge up to 1 week).

Dust your working space and roll it out, cut your shapes as desired. Preheat oven to about 250C and bake on high for about 5-6 min till brown. When you remove them from the oven, rub it with egg wash right away. It will get the cookies nice and glossy.

Sometimes I like to use this Easy Bake Cookie Cutting sheet. It cooks 24 cookies at once, so it’s super easy and efficient. You can find it on Amazon.

Do you want to know more about Thieves Vitality and Ginger Vitality?

Thieves Vitality combines Lemon, Clove, Eucalyptus Radiata, Cinnamon Bark, and Rosemary essential oils and is fantastic to boost your family’s immunity and support whole body wellness. I love cooking with it or just put a drop into my coffee, into my hot wine, or make Thieves Honey Tea when we need little extra support.

Ginger Vitality essential oil food supplement is distilled from the root of the ginger plant and lends itself to a wide variety of applications. Used as both a flavouring in the kitchen and as a dietary supplement, Ginger+ is a distinct and versatile oil that’s great to keep on hand.

Add a drop to your tea for a nice, soothing hot drink.

Dip a toothpick in Ginger+ and add it to your stir-fry for a zing of exotic flavour.

Ginger+ makes a great dietary supplement! Add a drop to a vegetarian gel capsule to support normal digestion, natural defences, normal vascular health, proper functioning of the respiratory tract and assisting your muscle, bone and joint health.

Add a spicy twist to a refreshing classic! Try adding a few drops of Ginger+ to a pitcher of homemade lemonade.

Mix a few drops of Ginger+ with your marinades and salad dressings to add a warm, spicy note.

Dilute 1 drop with 1 drop of carrier oil. Put in a capsule and take up to 3 times daily.

For The Love Of Salads

I love food, there is no doubt about it. I often wake up with something particular on my mind and I rush to the kitchen to make it.

That day I woke up wanting salad. But not just any salad. I knew I wanted cauliflower in it for the crunchiness and coriander avocado combo for the flavor. Hmmmm, what dressing? My eyes fell on some grapefruits and I knew what I’m gonna make!

So I grabbed all the ingredients (half an iceberg lettuce, cucumber, mixed salad leaves, coriander, avocado, few tomatoes and 1/4 cauliflower and just chopped it all

Putting everything in a bowl and setting aside, I got on making the dressing

In a separate bowl I mashed together slice of red and white grapefruit and few cubes of pineapple with spoon of olive oil.

I mashed it really well to get as much juice out of it as possible, then added 1 drop of Young Living Black Pepper Essential oil and 2 drops of Young Living Lime Essential Oil.

I love adding Essential oils to my food. They taste great and give my food extra layer of flavors. I could have used Grapefruit Essential oil instead of the fruit but I wanted the juice as well, not just the flavor, so this time I opted using the fruit. Also, I bought precut fruit bowl and I wanted to use it up.

Adding Essential Oils to food has many benefits, it has amazing flavor but also benefits our digestion. I love the flavor of Black Pepper Essential oil. It’s my go to for most of my dressings.

After mixing it really well together, I added some salt and poured it over the salad, tossing all together.

And then I just sat in my garden and enjoyed the beautiful weather and delicious salad. Oh yum!

How to loose weight the healthy way – Part 3 Weight Loss and Weight Management

ON TO WEIGHT LOSS AND WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

The most challenging about weight loss for me is food management, proper diet and sticking up to it.

Breakfast is so important but also so challenging. I’m Czech and we love our bread. Any pastry for that matter and it’s my usual go to when it comes to breakfast. Yeah but bread is not actually all that good, especially when you’re trying to loose weight and you don’t have the options of Ezekiel’s bread on hands or don’t bake your gluten free bread yourself.

So as a part of my spring (yes, I’m calling my Cleanse Spring Cleanse even though it’s January and it’s cold here) Cleanse I drink Young Living’s Slique Shake for breakfast.

Young Living understands the need of healthy weight management and created SLIQUE Line and today I will introduce several of their products.

Slique Shake is a meal replacement product and I use it for my breakfast. I mix it with frozen banana or plantain, add shot of NingXia red, some ice and some oils of my liking, depending on my mood. It’s really filling. It’s packed in individual packages so it’s also easy to carry around with you.

Slique Shake is naturally sweetened with Stevia, organic coconut palm sugar, wolf berries and strawberries, also contains quinoa, pea protein, pumpkin seed protein and alfalfa grass juice, so it’s excellent source of dietary fiber, provides essential vitamins and minerals. And it’s delicious!!!

It’s very filling so carries me for several hours feeling full but light.

SLIQUE ESSENCE

Oh how I love this! Slique essence is a must have if you’re trying to loose weight but also if you’re just maintaining. Why?

Slique Essence Essential Oil may help to control sugar cravings and provide a sense of satiety (feelings of fullness). It also contains oils that have cleansing properties and is part of Young Living’s Healthy Weight Management Program.

Just place a few drops of this oil in water to promote cleansing of the body and support hunger control and feelings of fullness.

Slique Essence cleanses and purifies the body of emotions that no longer serve us by helping us digest what is “eating us”. It releases irritation and frustration that often comes up when we have been stuck and trying to break through to the next level. This oil has a way of pulling us through that while cleansing and uplifting the spirit.

It contains Ocotea, Tangerine, Lemon, Grapefruit and Spearmint and Stevia Leaf Extract. Citrusy oils are fantastic in weight loss regimen as they aid to burning fat. The spearmint gives it nice minty flavor, boosts metabolism and helps soothing digestion.

CITRASLIM 15 Dual packs.

Probably my favorite product from the Slique Line. It is really effective, at least in my experience. I could see the results on my waist line and that is my most stubborn area when it comes to fat.

Slique CitraSlim is formulated with naturally derived ingredients to promote healthy weight management when combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise.*

Slique CitraSlim also includes a proprietary citrus extract blend, which some studies suggest may help support the body in burning excess fat when used in conjunction with a healthy weight-management plan.

This polyphenolic mixture of avonoids offers powerful antioxidants that are touted for their health benefits. This proprietary blend may also support the release of free fatty acids, which help break down fat.

Contains sweet orange, blood orange, and grapefruit, four citral-dense essential oils: Ocotea, Cassia, Peppermint, and Fennel, cinnamon powder, bitter orange extract, feungreek seed, ocotea leaf extract, and a customized blend of enzymes.

Cooking with Oils, Quick and Easy

Sharing my Oily Love makes me happy. It’s one of those things that come naturally to me I think. Well, talking about food and making food… go figure

Today, I held a class for my Tokyo friends. It is fun opportunity to catch up with my oily sisters, talk about life, love, food and oils. Naturally. Since the cooking is also about oils. Why to cook with oils and how, to be precise.

So why we should use Essential oils and not the conventional herbs and spices? For one, the oils do not get bad. When you buy a package of spices, once you open it, air gets to it, they start loosing flavor. In Japan’s humidity, it tends to get moldy. But not only that. By drying up the herb, it looses 95% of its therapeutic value. And that is what bothers me. For me, food is not just a way to stuff our tummy full, food is a way of life, medicine and comfort. So I want my food to be delicious, healthy and health beneficial.

This is where my Young Living Essential Oils come in. And I am stating very clearly, I only use Young Living Essential oils. No other company in the world gives you the guarantee that their oils are pure, therapeutic and organic. Only Young Living has the Seed to Seal Guarantee and that is something you HAVE to require from your oils. Because if you do not know where your oils are coming from, how can you use them in your food? You should not.

Using Essential oils in your food has many many benefits. Essential oils, if stored properly, do not have shelf life, they do not get bad. So you do not run out of spices (unless you have not finished your bottle of course). Little goes a long way, so each bottle can help you prepare many, many dishes. And their most important benefit is their therapeutic power. They aid digestion, help to keep your gut healthy and running, preserve your food and much much more. They taste great and give my food a boost of flavor.

Today I prepared 3 coursed Lunch Meal consisting of Goulash Soup, Honey Mustard Salmon or Chicken over vegetable salad and Fruit Sorbet. In all our dishes we used Essential oils.

We started off with a shot of NingXia Red to boost our energy. NingXia Red is fantastic source of antioxidants and really boosts immunity. On a rainy day like today NingXia comes really handy for extra energy too. Then we went on preparing the Sorbet.

DSC_0132

Fruit Sorbet (4 servings)

What you need

400 g of frozen fruits (can be fresh fruits too) we used mango, blueberries, mixed berries, banana and watermelon

2 tbsp of honey

2 tbsp of almond milk (you can use full cream or coconut milk instead or just water)

4 drops of each Citrus Fresh EO and Jade Lemon EO

Blend together, pour into container and freeze.

Here is where I always point out that for adults fun parties you can substitute the milk with tequilla or white rum to create frozen cocktails. They are so good! In that case, add some ice when blending it. Tastes divine. Serve with some Mint Leaves.

DSC_0154

Once the sorbet was in the freezer, we moved on to marinate our protein. We had it chicken to salmon half and half ratio.

Marinade (4 servings)

2 tbsp of olive oils

2 tbsp of honey

2 tbsp of wholegrain mustard

2 tbsp of yellow mustard

1 tbsp of spicy mustard like dijon or japanese karashi

salt

1 garlic, minced

2 drops of Orange, Lemon and Black Pepper EO

Salmon Fillets or Chicken Breast

First mix all the ingredience except the garlic and the protein. Keep half of the mixture for Salad Vinaigrette. Add garlic to the remaining mixture and coat your protein in it. Cover with foil and let marinate.

Now we moved on to prepare our Goulash Soup. This soup recipe is a combination of my tradition Czech Goulash Soup, Time management and Essential oils. Why I say that is that usually the soup is made from beef chunks, but for my cooking classes I use the minced meat version. It does not take long and it is very delicious too. Another reason why I prefer to make it from minced meat is  that my son prefers it that way. It is easier for him to eat.

DSC_0158

Goulash Soup

1  onion

1 tbsp of sweet paprika

1-2 cloves of garlic

2 potatoes

1 carrot

1 tbs of flour

350 g of minced meat (best if mix of pork and beef)

Salt

Vegetable oil of choice

1.5 l of water or stock

Stock cubes optional

Marjoram, Black Pepper and Oregano EO

Sweat the onion with little bit of oil, add garlic, paprika and fry for a minute. Cut your potatoes into small cubes and slice the carrot. Add minced meat to the pot until it browns a bit, add little flour and mix it well. Then add your vegetables and pour water over it. If using stock cubes, add some. Use salt to taste and let it simmer for about 30 min. Check if all your vegetables are soft.

(If you want to do vegetarian version, replace your meat with mushrooms such as Oyster mushrooms and add those once your potatoes and carrots are soft and just boil for extra 5 min)

Mix your EO with little bit of water in a sprayer bottle and spray your bowl of soup with it. Why? You do not want to cook your essential oil. The heat destroys the therapeutic properties. Take your soup off the heat and serve before you spray your oil mixture on it. DSC_0116

Now that the soup was ready, we prepared Mixed Salad from variety of greens, some yellow bell peppers and tomatoes and made the Honey Mustard NingXia Vinaigrette. We took the remaining Honey Mustard mixture we had and added a shot of NingXia and 2 more drops of Jade Lemon EO and 1 drop of Black Pepper EO. Mixed it well, then sprinkled over the salad.

DSC_0122

In a pan, we grilled our protein and placed it over the salad. Served together with the soup and the sorbet. It was delicious, filling and healthy.
