Household Wipes Made Easy

We all need to have good wipes on hand but majority of what’s sold in the stores is full of bleach and that’s just not good. Bleach is something I do not want around my house. I don’t want to use it to clean my kitchen counters. My food is on it, food goes in my body My body is my temple.

So I decided it’s time to make my own wipes. Scrolling down this page you will find my Youtube Video how I made it.

Naturally, I was looking for recycled paper and I just couldn’t find kitchen paper towels that were the right size and from recycled paper. But those who look hard enough…

I found nice paper towels in Daiso for 108¥! I bought plastic container that will fit those towels as well and rushed home so I can make my own wipes. I was really curious how this is gonna turn out.

For the pack of towels I used 2 cap fills of Thieves Cleaner to make sure even the toughest food stains will go away quickly and easily. Then I added 1/3 cup of White Vinegar and filled up with water to make total of 2 cups. I poured the mixture over the towels and let soak up.

It works wonders and it’s also very economical! If I’m not counting the container, which I’ll be using over and over, it comes to about 170¥ (1.6$) per pack of wipes that contain no harmful toxins and smell great!

Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner is absolutely amazing. Why?

Shampoo Bars On My Mind

Shampoo Bars are super popular these days. Why? Mostly because if you use the bars, you avoid plastic bottles. Zero waste. Which is awesome and very necessary.

I’m not an expert in making soaps of any kind and wanted some easy recipe without using lye that will still be efficient. And as you know me, I wanted something that will not only do the job, but benefit my hair and scalp.

So I decided to use Melt&Pour Soap Base. It’s easy to use and quite inexpensive (the one I bought is 1850¥ for 1 kg and that makes a lots of soap bars). In addition to that, you need Cocoa Butter (optional), Castor oil, Rosemary Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil and Cedarwood Essential oil. There are some optional ingredients if you want some texture, like dried herbs, baking soda if you have oily hair, cocoa or ground coffee beans for brunettes, different clays for scalp health or salts. As I was making the soap for many friends, I only added Essential oils, because I didn’t want to limit anybody. But my next batch will have cocoa and baking soda in it as I love it for my hair. I also have some special Russian clay my friend gave me, so that might be cool to try. I’m so excited to try new types!

You can decide if you want regular soap bars or smaller shapes. I love the smaller ones, because they are super portable (you can take it with you for a weekend away, camping etc) but also don’t have to worry it will melt in your shower. But I also made cute 8 cm teddy bear bars for kids. My favorite mold is silicone mold for chocolate or ice cubes. Each mini bar then lasts for about 4 washes. Perfect.

The ingredients I used :

0.4 kg of Organic Pour&Melt Soap Base

2 tsp of Castor oil

1 tsp of Cocoa Butter

10 drops of each essential oil

Method:

Prepare your desired containers. Spray it with alcohol and wipe.

In a double boiler, melt the soap base, add the Mango butter and Castor oil and combine well. If you’re adding baking soda, cocoa or other ingredients, add it too and make sure it combines really well. Take it off the heat and mix in the Essential oils. Do not boil it with the oils in as the oils would loose it’s therapeutic value. And we definitely want that.

Once your oils are in, just simply pour in your containers and let cool and harden. I mostly leave it at least over night, to make sure they are solid. Then transfer into airtight glass container and keep in your bathroom or wherever you want.

When using these shampoo bars, make sure you get your hair really wet. Then hold in bar in your hand and rub it on your scalp and into your hair. That will release the soap and it will start foam a bit. If need be, you can spray some more water onto your hair to help the shampoo clean your hair. Massage your scalp well. Then wash off.

Now remember this is natural soap so it doesn’t foam like regular shampoo. Regular Shampoos, Body soaps, even toothpastes contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) that make your products to foam. However, it is quite harmful and toxic ingredient so I avoid it in my products. Hence less foam, more goodness. No harm to our system.

What are the reasons behind using Essential oils in your shampoo? Lavender, Rosemary and Cedarwood are my Holy Trinity when it comes to all things hair. These three oils help speed up hair growth, aid in healthy scalp and beautiful thick hair. These oils are very supportive when fighting hair loss so I include them in all my hair care. Sometimes I also like to add Clary Sage and then Peppermint in the summer for cooling, refreshing feeling.

If you know me, you know I only use Young Living Essential oils. Why? Because I simply believe our company is the best. As the only company, Young Living offers Seed to Seal Guarantee and I trust their oils 100% to be therapeutic and unadulterated

FACIAL CLEANSER
Regular cleaning is an important part of healthy, youthful skin; however, you can overdo it. Dermatologists agree that over-washing can lead to irritation and lack of moisture. If you have oily skin, you should wash your face in the morning and evening. If your skin is on the drier side, stick to once daily in the evening. Always wash your face after workouts to prevent breakouts.

TIPS

1) Take your makeup off before you cleanse. Most cleansers won’t remove all of your makeup, so start with an oil-based makeup remover.

2) Avoid drastic temperature changes while cleansing. According to dermatologists, the whole “wash with HOT to open your pores and then finish with COLD to close your pores“ thing is a myth and it can actually cause irritation.

3) It is a good idea to cleanse your face in the shower. Mild steam can help soften hardened oil in pores.

4) Alternate your cleanser 3x a week with a gentle face scrub. Do more or less depending on how your skin feels. The Satin Mint Facial Scrub is A-MA-ZING for exfoliation.

Essential Oil Benefits

• Frankincense gives your skin a youthful appearance.

• Lavender is calming, soothing, and cleansing to the skin.

Facial Toner

skincare-toner

The biggest argument in favor of using a skin toner is that it restores your skin’s pH balance. Due to the alkalinity of soap, it causes your skin to be less acidic after cleansing. When the skin needs to work in overdrive to regain its more acidic natural pH level between five and six, it may overproduce oil. Using a toner can help return your skin to its proper pH level.

An alcohol-based toner strips the natural oils, so it is important to use a gentle alcohol-free toner. Make your own toner with a few easy-to-get, highly beneficial ingredients and essential oils that will transform this average toner into a premium product. Use your toner after cleansing and before moisturizing.

Vitamin E is both a nutrient and an antioxidant. Vitamin E oil prevents the formation of wrinkles by blocking free radical damage. It treats wrinkles by boosting collagen production, a connective tissue that keeps skin elastic and supports new skin cell growth and speeds up cell regeneration. If you are more prone to acne, use less or omit this from the recipe, as it is heavy on your skin.

Witch hazel is a plant native to North America and parts of Asia that has been used for centuries for its skin-soothing properties. Its powerful antioxidant and astringent benefits are known to help speed healing, prevent signs of aging, stop cellular damage that can lead to skin cancer, and eradicate bacteria that lives within the pores of the skin.

Essential Oil Benefits

• Frankincense gives your skin a youthful appearance.

• Tea Tree has been used for centuries by the aborigines to cleanse the skin. Note: this oil can be drying to the skin.

• Cypress supports healthy skin. *Use with caution during pregnancy.

• Geranium promotes healthy, clear, glowing skin.

Mud Mask

skincare-mudmask

The minerals in mud are highly effective for absorbing oil from deep within the pores as they dry, trapping the oil in the mud. Mud is often used to detoxify and tone the skin and as an anti-inflammatory agent for skin disorders.

Some other benefits of mud include: reducing signs of aging, improving circulation, shrinking large pores, rinsing away blackheads, and helping to clear acne. Please note that the mud will draw out moisture from your skin as it dries, so it is recommended that you follow up with a moisturizer. ART Light or Intensive Moisturizer are two great options from Young Living’s skin care line.

Essential Oil Benefits

• Spearmint moisturizes and refreshes the skin.

• Tea Tree has been used for centuries by the aborigines to cleanse the skin. Note: this oil can be drying to the skin.

• Lavender has a calm and soothing effect on your skin.

Eye Serum

skincare-eyeserum

The goal of an eye serum is to firm your eyes, decrease wrinkles, and reduce bags and dark circles under your eyes. Everybody wants that!

Argan oil is non-greasy and non-irritating, which makes it a great natural moisturizer to hydrate and soften skin and reduce the visibility of wrinkles. With its high vitamin E and fatty acid content, argan oil is ideal to give skin a natural boost.

Almond oil is very popular in Southeast Asia and in the Mediterranean region where the almond tree was first domesticated. It has gained huge popularity in the beauty industry. It creates smooth skin and reduces dark circles under the eyes. According to an article released by “Natural Living Ideas,” some see reduced dark circles in as little as two weeks after applying under the eyes regularly.

Essential Oil Benefits

• Sacred Sandalwood is calming and soothing. It also provides a youthful appearance to your skin.

• Blue Tansy is a rare botanical in the chamomile family. It has become celebrated for its use in luxury skin care products. Contains skin-cleansing and moisturizing benefits.

• Geranium promotes healthy, clear, glowing skin.

• Frankincense is popular for its ability to maintain radiant skin and to smooth the look of healthy skin.

• Lemon contains antioxidants and is refreshing, cleansing, and beneficial to skin.

Laundry Much???

I don’t always do laundry but when I do…. oh who am I kidding? I do laundry ALL THE TIME! Family of three, nine year old kid, there is always laundry!

But did you know that how you wash your clothes, what’s in your laundry detergent, influences your health? Your detergent might smell amazing, but it might be the reason why your skin is irritated. Fragrances, preservatives, dyes, and other chemicals in laundry detergent can cause rashes in both children and adults. Laundry detergents contain lots of potentially irritating ingredients. And because your entire body comes in contact with your laundry, you can have reaction all over. Hmmm. Not me. Why?

Few years back I decided to be more careful what I use for our family. As a mother and wife, it is my responsibility to choose the right products we use at home. And I take it seriously.

So I decided to join Young Living Company and go as much toxic chemicals free as possible. No fabric softener and “clean” Laundry soap was part of the whole Ditch&Switch process.

Watch video how I made my Laundry Soap and Stain Remover Spray and recipes are below

https://youtu.be/ynbNKci2r7c

Today I would like to share my recipe for Stain Spray and Liquid Laundry Detergent. Not only both of them are non toxic, they are also very effective, can be done in a minute and very cost effective. Instead of Fabric softener, I add white vinegar to my load and use Wool Dryer Balls with Essential oils for beautiful smell.

Stain Spray

Ingredients

100 ml of peroxide

50 ml of Thieves Dish Soap

1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner.

Mix together in sprayer bottle and use as needed. When spraying the stain, let it work for about 2-3 min before you wash.

Cost breakdown

Peroxide 99¥, Thieves Dish Soap 292 and 52¥ for Thieves Household Cleaner. So your amazingly smelling, non toxic stain spray costs you 443¥ !!! That’s nothing comparing to about 1300¥ for store bought stain removers that are full of dangerous ingredients.

(500 ml of peroxide costs 494¥, Thieves Dish soap costs 2133¥ for 365 ml and Thieves Household Cleaner costs 3402¥ for 426 ml)

Laundry Detergent

Ingredients

1/4 cup of washing Soda

1/4 cup of baking Soda

3.5 l of hot water

1/4 cup of Thieves Laundry Soap

2 capfuls of Thieves Household cleaner

First, dissolve the washing soda and the baking soda in the hot water. Mix well. Then add the Thieves Laundry Soap and Thieves Household Cleaner and again moc well. Voila, your detergent is ready!

Cost breakdown

Washing soda 68¥, Baking Soda 15¥, Thieves Laundry Soap 588¥ and Thieves Household Cleaner is 104¥. Making this 775 per 3.5 l of detergent. It makes 27¥ per load if I use approx 1/4 cup of the mixture!!!

(Washing soda costs 990¥ per 726 g, Baking Soda is 1858 per 6 kg, Thieves Laundry Soap is 4455¥ per 946 ml, Thieves Household Cleaner is 3402¥ for 426 ml.

All prices are calculated with members price. Retail price is more so it’s very beneficial to become a member.

Oh Skin So Smooth

We all know that amazing feeling after Spa treatment when your skin feels and smells so good, you just want to keep sniffing your own arms😂😂😂

I love to replicate that feeling as much as possible so I create my own skin products from the finest ingredients. Only the best, right? Body Butter is one of my specialities. I have been hunting for the perfect texture for a while now. And I finally achieved it. That merengue like texture that stays soft even when it gets colder. So what did I use?

The ingredients are simple but bare in mind my recipe makes about ten 200 ml jars of Body Butter so if you’re making just for yourself, you have to do the math. But why not give Oily gifts to your loved ones instead of buying things from stores?

Smooth Skin Body Butter

500 g of Pure Shea Butter

250 g of Organic Coconut Oil

200 ml of Pure Jojoba Oil

30 drops of Young Living Lavender Essential Oil

30 drops of Young Living Elemi Essential Oil

In a double boiler, first melt the Shea Butter as that takes the longest. Once almost melted, add the Coconut oil. When completely melted, take off the double boiler and add the Jojoba Oil. Mix well together so the ingredients combine

Let it harden. This was a challenge this time around because even though it’s November, the day was very warm and my mixture was not getting hard enough even hours after. I had to remove few things from my fridge and put the bowl there.

Once your mixture hardens, start whipping, using a mixer. I love my Kitchen Aid, because it does the job perfectly and I don’t have to hold it.

Getting the right stiffness of the mixture before you start whipping is crucial. If you let it harden too much, it won’t be smooth enough. Trust me, I’ve made that mistake once or twice.

At this point, add your essential oils. This time I chose Lavender and Elemi. At the end of this post I will explain why I chose these two oils.

placeholder://

After you added the essential oils, keep whipping for about 3-4 min. Scrape the sides of the bowl and whip some more. You want thick, smooth texture. Transfer in sterilized jars and close the lids.

So why did I use Lavender and Elemi Essential oils?

I love Lavender for my skin. It is very calming and has amazing scent. Not only that, it has proven antimicrobial properties, meaning it helps to prevent bacteria and fungi to grow. So when applied on skin, it helps with itchiness and may prevent infections. It is also used as a home remedy for burns and skin inflammation. I use Lavender after sun exposure because it helps my skin to recover. And I always have it handy when I’m ironing😜. Lavender helps with many different skin issues and is baby friendly, so you can use it for whole family.

Elemi is another very calming, beautifully smelling oil. It has great healing properties. When diffused, it helps relieve stress and anxiety. Using Elemi helps boost immunity system and supports respiratory health. For skin, it has calming and healing effects and acts as a tonic for our body.

So combination of these two essential oils in this Butter butter makes a beautiful, calming mixture.

Naturally, I only use and recommend Young Living Essential oils. I made a blog post about it so you can read it or send me a message and I’ll explain the Why’s
